New Ercan Airport
Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arikli said that in 2023 a new terminal at Ercan Airport will open in Northern Cyprus. Arikli noted that the construction of the new airport terminal has been completed and the technical equipment has already been installed. Test flights will begin in February, and the official opening is scheduled before the start of the tourist season.
The size of the new terminal building, which is called the "window to the world" of the TRNC, is 20,000 square meters, and its area is about 7.8 million square meters, which is six times the current size of the airport. The terminal parking area is 34,000 sq. m, and the length of the new main runway will be 2,755 m, which is in line with international standards for commercial aircraft. The new terminal will allow simultaneously servicing up to 26 large aircraft. This, in turn, will reduce the cost of air tickets. The new airport will be six times the size of the current one and will have a total of 30 aircraft parking areas, 60 check-in counters, 44 passport control points, and 26 x-ray machines.
