The historical heritage of Northern Cyprus - Varosha.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, Fikri Ataoglu, said in a statement that the number of visitors to the abandoned city of Varosha, which opened after 46 long years, has reached 1 million people.

Ataoglu also noted that Varosha is of particular importance for the country, and also makes a significant contribution to the development of tourism, and that many tourists come to Northern Cyprus specifically to see the ghost town with their own eyes.

P.S: Varosha is a ghost town which is a tourist area of Famagusta city. It was founded at the end of the 16th century and rebuilt in 1960-1974, after Northern Cyprus gained independence. In the late 60s it was one of the most popular European centers of entertainment and tourism.
