Giant record-breaking turtle, weighing 90 kg, under treatment in northern Cyprus
A giant green turtle, setting a new weight record at 90 kg, is currently receiving care in northern Cyprus.
At Tashkent Nature Park, a colossal green turtle tipping the scales at nearly 90 kg is under treatment. This individual is the most massive ever recorded by the local conservation team.
Kemal Basat, the park's director, noted that this green turtle is the heaviest ever documented, with a weight of 89.9 kg. The rescue team exerted significant effort to move the immense turtle to the park's center, as it scarcely fit inside the transport vehicle.
The park's staff are amazed by the turtle's size, deeming it an "exceptionally rare event."
"This is a record that might stand unmatched. The adult turtles of this species that have arrived at our Center have averaged a weight of 50-60 kg," Basat remarked.
The turtle has been checked into the Wildlife Hospital, where it is under the careful watch of experts. Its condition is serious yet stable, with the following days being pivotal to its recovery.
After completing the necessary medical treatment and rehabilitation, the turtle will be returned to the wild.
