Northern Cyprus has announced the discovery of its most significant water source to date
The TRNC Department of Geological and Mineral Resources has identified an unprecedentedly abundant water source following a month-long research initiative in the foothills of Çatalköy, located in the Beşparmak Mountains.
The newly discovered water source, at a depth of 168 meters, has an impressive flow rate of 80 tons per hour, making it the most prolific well ever recorded in the Çatalköy aquifer of the Kyrenia mountain range.
The department credited the breakthrough to the relentless dedication of its engineers and technical team, as per their official statement.
The site has garnered attention from key officials, including the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, and the Director of the Department of Geological and Mineral Resources, Ayşen Albayrak.
Minister Ataoğlu highlighted the significance of this discovery as the most substantial water source in TRNC's history, poised to substantially address the water demands of Çatalköy and its surrounding areas. He also mentioned that exploratory efforts are underway in the Lapta region to locate another major water source.
