In a statement, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, announced the completion of the construction of the new Ercan Airport and the installation of technical devices.

The report said that test flights will begin in February after the final completion of the installation, and that the official opening ceremony of the new Ercan Airport is planned before the start of the tourist season in TRNC.

The area of the building of the new terminal, the so-called "window to the world" of the TRNC, is 20,000 m2, and its total area is about 7.8 million m2, which is six times the area of the existing airport. The total parking area is 34,000m2 and the length of the new main runway will be 2,755m, which will fully comply with international norms and standards.

The new airport will be able to serve up to 26 large aircraft at the same time, which will significantly reduce ticket prices.

It is planned to build 60 check-in counters, 44 passport control points, 26 x-ray machines and 30 aircraft parking spaces in the new airport building.
