Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoglu noted that since the TRNC is an island state, they pay more attention to environmental protection and zero waste production, and therefore single-use plastic materials will be banned in the TRNC according to after 6 months.
Deputy Prime Minister Ataoglu recalled that, in accordance with two separate resolutions adopted by the Council of Ministers earlier this month, in the TRNC, from July 11, 2023, plastic bags will be completely banned first, and then the use of single-use plastic materials such as straws, forks, plates , spoons and glasses.
According to global data, plastic bags are used on average 12 minutes, but they take 1,000 years to dissolve in nature.
The decision, which will come into force in early July, will be monitored by the Department of Environmental Protection under the Ministry of the Vice Prime Minister, Tourism, Culture, Youth and the Environment.
Ataoglu issued a statement on the issue and said the ministry has taken a strong stand to eliminate environmentally harmful plastic bags from our lives.
