Construction of an irrigation system in the TRNC.

The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Structures (DSI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey is implementing a project that will provide irrigation water to 97,200 hectares of land in the TRNC.

According to the ministry, construction will begin on the Second Part of the 44-kilometer-long Middle Messaria Plain Irrigation Transmission Line at a cost of around £1 billion 849 million.

The Alaköprü dam built in Mersin and the Gecitköy dam in TRNC will be used for the water supply of this project.

Among the agricultural products to be produced under the project are fruits, vegetables, peanuts, olives, potatoes, citrus fruits, pomegranates, artichokes and cereals (barley, wheat), fodder crops (such as green grass, silage corn, alfalfa).

With the completion of the construction of the irrigation system in the TRNC, the employment of about 10 thousand people and the annual contribution to the country's economy in the amount of 468 million liras will be provided.
