Türkiye is actively working to expand its trade relations with Northern Cyprus

The Second Turkey-TRNC Economic Conference was recently graced by the presence of Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gurcan, and Rifat Hisarciklioğlu, the President of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB). The event was orchestrated by the Türkiye-TRNC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Forum.

Gurkan, during the conference, shed light on the remarkable trade accomplishments with the TRNC in 2023, which totaled $2.5 billion. He voiced his ambition to not only escalate the trade volume in the forthcoming years but also to augment Northern Cyprus’ contribution to this trade.

Gurkan underscored his dedication to advocating for international recognition of Turkish Cypriot independence and sovereignty, acknowledging the enduring injustices they have encountered.

The primary objective of their endeavors, Gurkan stressed, is to safeguard the existence, liberty, and future of the Turkish Cypriot community. They are committed to fortifying all institutions and bodies of the TRNC through collaborative initiatives.

Furthermore, Gurkan highlighted their plan to reinforce economic bonds between the two nations, mirroring their profound fraternal ties. Their principal aim is to expedite the socio-economic progression of Cyprus.

He also brought attention to the agreements concluded during the 12th meeting of the Turkey-TRNC Joint Committee in January, encompassing cooperation in diverse sectors such as trade, customs, e-commerce, product safety, human resources, free zones, health, and legal infrastructure.

The “Turkey-TRNC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Forum” is committed to bolstering bilateral trade and investment relations, as well as enhancing the investment environment. Hisarciklioglu reiterated his backing for the TRNC’s integration efforts on the global stage and his support for the TRNC’s representation in international organizations.
