Hundreds of passengers stranded at Ercan airport

Over the past weekend, Ercan Airport faced significant delays that impacted several flights, leaving numerous passengers stranded for approximately 12 hours.

The online flight tracker Flightradar showed that the disrupted flights included services by AJet, Pegasus, and Turkish Airlines heading to Ankara, Istanbul, Adana, among other locations.

A significant delay involved AJet's flight, which was scheduled to leave Ercan for Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 15:10 but was postponed for more than 12 hours. Reports from local media indicated that flights were being delayed in 40-minute increments, with passengers struggling to obtain clear reasons for the hold-ups. The mentioned flight finally took off at 8:47, as displayed on the online flight board.

These delays led to hundreds of passengers being stuck at the airport for extended periods, causing a ripple effect of missed connecting flights.

Subsequently, airport authorities explained that the delays were due to the surge in passenger volume following the Kurban Bayram holiday and necessary changes to aircraft tires.

As of now, Ercan Airport's flight operations have returned to their regular schedule.
